I think we can all agree the holiday season is a busy time of year for all of us! Well in addition to the holiday hoopla (shopping, parties, etc) we both joined some friends in a fitness challenge. Our fitness group (Having Fitness Is The New Sexy), started on December 5th. It challenges everyone to not wait for the New Year (again) to take their health and fitness seriously. Due to the decline of the college football season, we decided to walk a half marathon in DC prior to heading out to watch the Dallas Cowboys vs Tampa Bay Bucs Saturday Night. Continue reading

I’m talking more than just football everyone! Allow me to introduce you to The DC Ladies!
Yours truly is the newest Contributor to The DC Ladies! Who and what are The DC Ladies? The DC Ladies is a site that focuses on life in Washington, DC from a fantastic female perspective! It features a collaborative of topics from women all over Washington, DC.
I will be writing for their “Stilettos and Sports” column! You will get my view from a range of DC sporting events. Some of the events I will attend and write about include games for: The Washington Redskins, the Washington Capitals, the Georgetown Hoyas, the Maryland Terps, and (NBA lockout pending) the Washington Wizards. Posts from me in the “Stilettos and Sports” column are published twice per month.
Last night brought back the return of Thursday Night Football. For me, it means a few things: it means another night of NFL action, which is always a good thing, but it also means that it’s just a few more weeks left in the regular season before the playoffs start, and ultimately the end of another season, which for me is a sad thing, because I love the NFL. Thursday Night Football also makes me appreciate the Fox, CBS, and ESPN broadcasts because the NFL Network just doesn’t get it right when it comes to broadcasting a live football game. I love the NFL Network but they are TERRIBLE. Continue reading
We had SO much fun Monday night, that this week we decided we wanted to go where the people are again! A couple years ago, we watched a Monday night football game at BlackFinn when the New Orleans Saints played the Atlanta Falcons. (the year the Saints wind up winning beating Atlanta and winning the Super Bowl later). We had such a great time that we decided to go back!
We were NOT disappointed! If you know about me, you know I love talking trash and being around proud fans of their team. While I went primarily to check out my Redskins (and the official ESPN 980 post game show was being taped there), there were fans for just about every 1 o clock game on! Steelers, Texans, Cowboys, Philly, 49ers…and of course Redskins fans! Everyone was cheering (or jeering) at different games. They had the sports bar MUST HAVES: lots of huge tvs, lots of beer options, and delicious food! Check it out:
We watched our favorite teams (The Dallas Cowboys for me and The Washington Redskins for her) go for it on Monday Night Football this week. Our venue of choice was the Penn Quarter Sports Tavern. The main reason this venue got my vote was because there were LARGE, CRYSTAL CLEAR HIGH DEFINITION TELEVISIONS wall to wall everywhere! The menu has your typical sports bar food (burgers, pizza, wings) and the prices were great. Especially the half off wings after 7pm! We had a few friends show up and we took over the best spot in the house: the second floor right against the wall where you could see about 8 TVs lined up on the opposite wall! Talk about the perfect venue! Continue reading
Growing up in the suburbs of Washington, DC and attending my beloved “Home by the Sea” Hampton University has left me biased–There is NOTHING like the HBCU experience! Football games in the fall are the best! The Battle of the Band, the Fraternities and Sororities, then finally the best part: all of the alumni coming back still repping their home away from home! Every time I go to a game at my beloved HBCU, Hampton University, it’s like I never left.
Today D and I stayed in DC and attended the Morehouse vs Howard game played at the legendary RFK stadium. It reminded me of years past when I used to go to Howard games as a teen. I also was reminded of the sense of “home” I felt when coming back to DC from Hampton for the HU vs HU games. Ladies at HBCUs don’t care that it’s a football games, they are getting DRESSED UP! Heels and fly dresses or jeans, all type of hot coats etc! I saw the jazziest couple walking hand in hand donning their Morehouse and Spelman gear. The experience in DC is different from most cities that host a game. The Metro is rowdy, the traffic is crazy…and note: I’m not even talking about Homecoming! Continue reading
