She Said: Donovan McNabb on First Take This Thursday

My 3 Things This Thursday all involve Donovan McNabb on ESPN’s First Take.  I can’t lie, I was fired UP watching the show today.

Last Thursday I wrote that Donovan would be the go-to person regarding the Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow situation because Donovan experienced a similar situation when Mike Vick came to Philly as a “package QB”.  So when I turned on First Take this morning I was pleasantly surprised to see Donovan on and wanted to hear what he had to say regarding that topic.  Donovan felt that Sanchez wouldn’t lose his job…apparently experience is not the greatest teacher in this case.  Donovan stuck to how he asked Andy Reid about Mike Vick coming to play.  Donovan felt this situation was different because Michael Vick was coming out of jail and I’m guessing he did not believe Michael Vick would take his job.  Donovan says he had to leave Philly because of money.  Vick, Kolb, and McNabb all had one year left but because he (Donovan) was owed the most money, he was the one to go…More on that in a minute. Donovan told Skip he does not regret recommending Mike Vick to Andy Reid.  According to Donovan, Mark Sanchez has nothing to worry about.  Continue reading

He Said: I’d Love RGIII to Go 1st!

The Indianapolis Colts have gone on record saying Andrew Luck is not a guaranteed Number 1 overall draft pick.  Let me go on record saying: That’s fine with me!  I’d love RGIII to be a Colt.  Here are 5 reasons why:

1.  The Colts have a winning tradition and have built a very strong franchise, and even though Robert Irsay acted like a CLASS A jerk for the way he treated Peyton Manning, he does not want to lose.  Especially after last year’s dreadful season when they finished with a 2-14 record.  Mainly, he wants to show the world that he is smarter than everyone, and can be successful without Manning.  I’m not taking anything away from Andrew Luck, but RGIII will bring excitement back to that organization.  He will win back the fans that they lost last season and lost during the office season with the Peyton drama.  RGIII gives the Colts the best chance of winning now.

2.  The NFL is changing.  With the success of players like Michael Vick, Cam Newton, and even Tim Tebow, teams are looking for the extra dimension of a quarterback that can take off and run.  I’m not implying that the pure pocket passer will become obsolete, but most teams are now looking for a QB that can air it out with accuracy and run for a 40 yard gain.  RGIII can give you that. She Said: Watch Out for the Big Boys!

Yesterday was an interesting day at the 2012 NFL Combine.  We got to see the O linemen and Tight Ends go to work.  It amazes me every year to see fellas that are 270-310 pounds MOVE with such speed and agility! I mean wow!

Let me start with the least impressive…In fact, I will put it this way: I’m glad my team is not in desperate need of a tight end.  The TE prospects were good, but no stellar, must-have 1st rounders in this group.  According to NFL Network, only 14 guys were invited to this years’ Combine.  It was hard to find anyone to jump up and down about.  Basically we want an awesome blocker who can be another receiving option.  Many of these guys didn’t catch the ball well.  If you feel your team does need a TE, no need to panic…studs like Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski were drafted in the 2nd round.  Even Jason Witten and Jermichael Finley were drafted  in round 3. I’d imagine that’s were guys like Dwayne Allen, James Hanna (who ran a fast 4.49) and DeAngelo Peterson would go round 3. They were all just…meh Continue reading
