She Said: Donovan McNabb on First Take This Thursday

My 3 Things This Thursday all involve Donovan McNabb on ESPN’s First Take.  I can’t lie, I was fired UP watching the show today.

Last Thursday I wrote that Donovan would be the go-to person regarding the Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow situation because Donovan experienced a similar situation when Mike Vick came to Philly as a “package QB”.  So when I turned on First Take this morning I was pleasantly surprised to see Donovan on and wanted to hear what he had to say regarding that topic.  Donovan felt that Sanchez wouldn’t lose his job…apparently experience is not the greatest teacher in this case.  Donovan stuck to how he asked Andy Reid about Mike Vick coming to play.  Donovan felt this situation was different because Michael Vick was coming out of jail and I’m guessing he did not believe Michael Vick would take his job.  Donovan says he had to leave Philly because of money.  Vick, Kolb, and McNabb all had one year left but because he (Donovan) was owed the most money, he was the one to go…More on that in a minute. Donovan told Skip he does not regret recommending Mike Vick to Andy Reid.  According to Donovan, Mark Sanchez has nothing to worry about.  Continue reading

He Said: I’d Love RGIII to Go 1st!

The Indianapolis Colts have gone on record saying Andrew Luck is not a guaranteed Number 1 overall draft pick.  Let me go on record saying: That’s fine with me!  I’d love RGIII to be a Colt.  Here are 5 reasons why:

1.  The Colts have a winning tradition and have built a very strong franchise, and even though Robert Irsay acted like a CLASS A jerk for the way he treated Peyton Manning, he does not want to lose.  Especially after last year’s dreadful season when they finished with a 2-14 record.  Mainly, he wants to show the world that he is smarter than everyone, and can be successful without Manning.  I’m not taking anything away from Andrew Luck, but RGIII will bring excitement back to that organization.  He will win back the fans that they lost last season and lost during the office season with the Peyton drama.  RGIII gives the Colts the best chance of winning now.

2.  The NFL is changing.  With the success of players like Michael Vick, Cam Newton, and even Tim Tebow, teams are looking for the extra dimension of a quarterback that can take off and run.  I’m not implying that the pure pocket passer will become obsolete, but most teams are now looking for a QB that can air it out with accuracy and run for a 40 yard gain.  RGIII can give you that. She Said: 3 Thoughts This Thursday…

What a wild week in the NFL!  There has not been a dull moment since the start of Free Agency.  I wanna share these thoughts with you…

Mark Sanchez: make your next move your best move.  I really feel for Mark.  Tim Tebow coming to NY is the worst thing that could have possibly happened for Mark.   I believe the Jets front office has not really been up front with us (or Mark Sanchez for that matter).  All this talk about how they have confidence in Mark Sanchez..HUMPH!  The Jets had one of the most tumultuous locker rooms in all of the NFL last season and to bring in additional drama is confusing to me.  I know, I know-they wanna bring Tim in for Wild Cat packages…but I don’t buy that.  A QB package player is still a threat to the starting QB.  Ask Donovan McNabb!  He thought it was all rainbows and good times when Mike Vick was acquired from the Eagles.  “Oh, he’ll be an option for certain packages”  We all know how that story ended.  Skip Bayless had a funny quote today: “Mark Sanchez is a mistake maker, Tim Tebow is a play maker”.  I’m just saying,  for the sanity of JETS fans everywhere, I sincerely hope Mark has his best season. Same Guy, New Uniform…Free Agency

As you know, Free Agency kicks off today!  While there are a lot of guys who will be sporting a new uniform this fall, these four guys seem to be this season’s most notable:

Peyton Manning:  Of course this season’s most popular free agent still grabs most of the headlines.  After the rumor of over 15 teams interested, it seems like now it’s down to Miami, Tennessee, Arizona, and Denver.  The funniest part of the Manning coverage is how NFL insiders are all quick to say “Another team may sneak in and sign Peyton Manning.” That’s because people don’t want to be wrong like last year when the Eagles signed Nnamdi Asomugha out of no where!  When it comes to Peyton Manning,  I’m a fan of the comeback .   I hope Manning returns better than expected (think Farve’s  first year in Minnesota).  Nothing would be sadder than to see Manning fail this season.   Miami is where I would like to see him land.  We can get the hype (and you know they will hype it!) of watching Manning vs Brady twice per year.

Mario Williams:  If it weren’t for the Peyton Manning spotlight, the hottest Free Agent this year would be former #1 draft pick Mario Williams.  I’ve heard it all regarding teams who want this guy: Tennessee, Miami, Seattle, New Orleans and Chicago to name a few.  I know all of those teams can use him.  I also know that most teams can’t afford both Manning AND Williams.  While the Bears really need another receiver, Williams would be great in the Chi.  I’m sure Bears fans would agree!
