He Said: Playmaker Potential

With the final day of the Combine in the books, I want to take the time to interject some of my observations about the “sexy” skill players: QBs, RBs, WRs, an CBs specifically.  But before I dig in, I have to say that I always enjoy the Combine.  It’s one of my favorite times of the NFL off season.  It’s the prelude to the upcoming season.  Who can’t get excited about that?

I know that everybody is talking about RGIII and Andrew Luck, and they are who we thought they were.  But first, is Indy better off without Peyton and putting their future in the hands of Luck.  And is RGIII worth the number of draft picks that its going to take to get that second pick from St. Louis.  The last I heard was its going to take 2 number 1s, 2 number 2s and a number 3 to get that pick from the Rams.  Jeff Fisher, take that deal.  I guarantee you will win a Super Bowl before the team that gives up all of the picks for Griffin.  There’s not a lot to say about any other QBs at the Combine mainly because none of them didn’t particularly impress.  In fact the only other probable 1st round QB, Ryan Tannehill from Texas A&M, wasn’t even at the Combine.  However, there were a few bright spots from Houston’s Case Keenum, Kellen Moore from Boise St., and Jacory Harris from the U.  But they won’t be drafted higher than the 3rd round. She Said: Watch Out for the Big Boys!

Yesterday was an interesting day at the 2012 NFL Combine.  We got to see the O linemen and Tight Ends go to work.  It amazes me every year to see fellas that are 270-310 pounds MOVE with such speed and agility! I mean wow!

Let me start with the least impressive…In fact, I will put it this way: I’m glad my team is not in desperate need of a tight end.  The TE prospects were good, but no stellar, must-have 1st rounders in this group.  According to NFL Network, only 14 guys were invited to this years’ Combine.  It was hard to find anyone to jump up and down about.  Basically we want an awesome blocker who can be another receiving option.  Many of these guys didn’t catch the ball well.  If you feel your team does need a TE, no need to panic…studs like Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski were drafted in the 2nd round.  Even Jason Witten and Jermichael Finley were drafted  in round 3. I’d imagine that’s were guys like Dwayne Allen, James Hanna (who ran a fast 4.49) and DeAngelo Peterson would go round 3. They were all just…meh Continue reading

She Said: Combine Coverage

Tomorrow kicks off the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine!  We couldn’t be more excited  to get a glance at tomorrow’s NFL superstars!  Last year we were so impressed by guys like Cam Newton and Julio Jones.  These guys took that final interview/try out seriously.  Both players had monster rookie seasons to boot!

After checking Combine coverage on NFL Network and ESPN, I have learned all the top players most folks will discuss.  I’m more excited about seeing players who are not on everyone’s radar…guys who will not go in the first round, but maybe do well enough to increase their chances in the 2nd and 3rd round.  Of course, D and I are EXTREMELY interested in looking at play makers who can contribute to our favorite teams (mine, the Redskins and his the Cowboys).

We are going to have some fun!  Live coverage of the Combine starts Saturday Feb. 25th. We will be watching Combine coverage and sharing with  you our thoughts! In addition to blog posts, catch us on Twitter (@he_shesaidfball).

The Best to Ever Sing the National Anthem

Rest In Peace Whitney Houston.  Today many news outlets have reported that Whitney Houston has died.  We would like to remember her here on He Said She Said FOOTBALL by recognizing her as we can relate to her best on this blog.  Here is the video of her singing the National Anthem for Super Bowl XXV:

Rest in Peace Whitney Houston (1963-2012)

Yeah We Said It (during the preseason)!

There are many reasons to love football.  It gives you action and adventure, comedy and drama, theater and live-action.  Many times it’s the things that are said about the game and the players.  Action is on the field, and off the field from fans, reporters, bloggers….sometimes from the players themselves.  Here are a few lines from us in the 2011 offseason (during the lockout).  Funny how things actually played out…

I love Chad, you love Chad…it’s the end zone that no longer welcome’s #85.

The WR core in Detroit starts and ends with Calvin ‘Megatron’ Johnson.  He’s the Lions best offensive weapon…..BAR NONE, and he’s only gonna get better.

“Take Ownership” of the offense is what Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome is expecting of QB Joe Flacco this year in Baltimore.  Joe may be Cool and he may be the best QB the Ravens have ever had, but this is a RUNNING team! Torrey Smith (University of MD: Stand Up) is the rookie WR drafted this offseason.  At 6’1, 204lbs, the Ravens will look to Smith to be the HUGE, PHYSICAL deep threat.  Continue reading
