We have an exciting Thursday Night planned! There are 2 football games tonight that are pretty exciting to us. At 8pm, the Virginia Tech Hokies will be at Bobby Dodd Stadium to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Starting at 8:20, Thursday Night Football returns to the NFL Network with an AFC West showdown between the Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers.
Before all of this action, we will be attending the Capital Food Fight, benefiting DC Central Kitchen in Washington, DC. The Capital Food Fight will feature prominent chefs in a culinary battle while 67 top DC restaurants serve their signature dishes. The host of the 2011 Capital Food Fight is Anthony Bourdain (of the Travel Channel’s “No Reservations”). Celebrity Judges include: Ted Allen (host of Food Network‘s “Chopped”); Joan Nathan (James Beard Award winning cookbook author); and Ming Tsai (chef/owner of Blue Ginger and host/producer of “Simply Ming”). The proceeds of this event benefit DC Central Kitchen (a non-profit that feeds thousands of people in additional to providing culinary training to once homeless and hungry adults).
The Capital Food Fight begins at 6pm, and we have been invited to attend a VIP party at 5pm! Say VIP to a blogger and we are all about it! There are 4 chefs we will get to watch battle it out during the Food Fight: 1.Todd Gray (of Equinox and Watershed); 2. Haidar Karoum (of Proof and Estadio); 3. Jeff Black (of Pearl Oyster Dive Palace); and 4. Brian McBride (of Blue Duck Tavern). We will be live tweeting the event using #FoodFight check our updates on Twitter (he_shesaidfball).
A couple of things about the return of Thursday Night football: #1 there are now 3 days of the week we get to enjoy NFL action (HOORAY!) #2 Fantasy Footballers can not wait all week long to do research and finalize line ups. Don’t get caught slippin!
This week’s match up is between the Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers…can you say CRITICAL win for both teams. The AFC West is pretty much up for grabs with Kansas City at 4-4, Oakland at 4-4, San Diego at 4-4, and Denver at 3-5. While it’s not quite the worst division in the AFC (AFC South), its hard to believe the winner of this division will make any noise in the playoffs.
While we are not Hokie fans (hello, Miami Hurricanes), being from the greater Washington, DC area allows us to follow the Hokies closely. Tonight’s is a game we expect Va Tech to win…
We can’t wait to post everything that happened!
